10 to contend in Arnold Palmer Invitational

One of the strongest fields of the PGA Tour season so far has assembled at Bay Hill for the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard. The odds-makers have world No. 1 Rory McIlroy as the stand-out favorite to win but watch out for Bryson DeChambeau: the 26-year-old from California has form and always plays well at Bay Hill. Here are 10 golfers we expect to have a shout come Sunday afternoon in Orlando, including a fast rising star from South Korea, Sungjae Im, who won his first PGA Tour title last week

Rory McIlroy: The World No. 1 brings excellent form to Bay Hill, where he won in 2018. It will be a surprise if Rory does not contend yet the course this week is likely to be firmer than it was two years ago, when softer greens played to Rory’s strengths and enabled him to attack the pins.

Justin Rose: Englishman Rose thrives on tough golf courses, he has all the shots for difficult conditions and he loves Bay Hill, finishing second in the API in 2013 and third in 2018.

Matthew Fitzpatrick: Another Englishman with a strong record at Bay Hill, Fitzpatrick putts well in Florida and he was the 54-hole leader in the API last year.

Rickie Fowler: Fowler suffered a big miss last week, missing the cut in the Honda Classic, but he did shoot 68 in the second round to show his form might not be far off. Fowler loves it at Bay Hill and while he is yet to win the API, he did win an AJGA tournament at Bay Hill in 2006 with Patrick Reed in the field.

Adam Scott: A revived Adam Scott is already a winner on the PGA Tour this year, at Riviera in the Genesis Invitational. Scott has played well in the API before, with his best finish being third in 2014.

Bryson DeChambeau: DeChambeau brings serious form to the API as well as an impressive past record at Bay Hill. DeChambeau was tied-5th at Riviera three weeks ago, runner-up in Mexico after that and was runner-up here two years ago, when he shot three rounds in the 60s and only finished second because of an irresistible late charge from McIlroy. DeChambeau also shot 66 here as an amateur in 2016.

Sungjae Im: Im was named Arnold Palmer Rookie of the Year on the PGA Tour in 2019, having been the only rookie to qualify for the season-closing Tour Championship. He secured his first PGA Tour win last week at the Honda Classic.

Tony Finau: Finau brings some impressive early-season form to Bay Hill, even if he did let the Phoenix Open slip through his fingers at TPC Scottsdale. Can’t help feeling career win number two is around the corner.

Tommy Fleetwood: Fleetwood has arrived at Bay Hill with a point to prove after letting the Honda Classic slip at the very last hole on Sunday, and after commentator Paul Azinger played down his international achievements. He likes Bay Hill and finished tied-third last year.

Marc Leishman: Already a winner this year at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, Aussie Leishman won at Bay Hill in 2017 and was tied-7th in 2018.
