The Insperity Invitational begins today at The Woodlands CC in Houston
The Insperity Invitational begins today, April 30, at The Woodlands CC in Houston, as the fourth tournament of 2021 on the PGA Tour Champions. Scott McCarron returns as defending champion (from the last Insperity Invitational played in 2019) and an extremely strong field will compete for the $2.2 million prize fund and a first prize of $330,000.
In fact, the winners of each of the last eight Insperity Invitationals are in this week’s field, Including four-time champ Bernhard Langer (2018, ’14, ’08, ’07). The other recent winners here are John Daly (2017), Jesper Parnevik (2016), Ian Woosnam (2015), Esteban Toledo (2013) and Fred Funk (2012).
A troop of 18 golfers are making their tournament debut this week, including major champions Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, Davis Love III, Mike Weir and Rich Beem, while making his overall PGA Tour Champions debut is Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn, who turned 50 in February and last hit the golf headlines when he led the European Ryder Cup team to victory in Paris in 2018.
