It was all a dream.

David Kohler, the chair and CEO of Kohler Co., says the idea of Arsham in Kohler—a new three-way partnership between Kohler Co., artist and sculptor Daniel Arsham, and Malbon Golf—came to him in a dream.

Arsham first collaborated with Kohler Co. in 2020, when he designed Rock.01, a limited edition of 99 3D-printed bathroom sinks that emulate curves and lines found in nature. Rock.01 received great acclaim and sold out within an hour of its release.

Then came the dream, after which David decided to pursue an exhibit of Arsham’s artwork. The two soon realized that they had a shared vision of integrating art onto golf courses. “After the success of Rock.01 and our mutual desire to redefine experiences, we knew we wanted to collaborate again and in a much larger way,” David says.

Unveiled on June 24, Arsham in Kohler blends contemporary art, golf, design, and luxury travel like never before. The collaboration includes an Arsham-designed cabin and a series of large-scale sculptures at Destination Kohler in Wisconsin, as well as an exclusive Kohler bathroom collection and a clothing line from Malbon.

“Arsham in Kohler integrates Kohler’s legacy of iconic design with Arsham’s unprecedented creative expression and Malbon’s curation of a playful golf lifestyle and culture,” David says. “The three brands share a passion for encouraging a diverse audience to access new experiences and gain unique perspectives.”

The sculptures dot the Destination Kohler landscape, including along the Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run golf courses, making them among the few in the world to incorporate art. It’s while playing the two courses that golfers will encounter Arsham’s “Amalgamized Head of Hermes of Olympia,” “Bronze Eroded Venus di Milo,” and “Bronze Eroded Pentax Camera.” The artist’s “Bronze Eroded Porsche 911” sits in front of the Whistling Straits Clubhouse.

“Incorporating my sculptures into the golf landscape will hopefully spark conversation about creative expression and golf in a whole new way,” Arsham says. “There is a kind of artistic, architectural, even sculptural proposition that’s inherent in the game of golf, where you end up playing against the creator of the course itself.

“We created an atmosphere where unexpected wonders emerge out of the blue, offering moments of surprise, and beckoning guests and the community to explore our world from a new perspective,” he adds.

Additional sculptures are installed at the Kohler Design Center, the Shops at Woodlake, and at Arsham Cabin, a two-bedroom, two-bathroom rental on the shores of Lake Michigan that marks the latest addition to the Kohler Cabin Collection. “The Arsham Cabin brings nature into the space through his creative vision and designs,” David says. “We want our guests to immerse themselves into Daniel’s world, as the cabin includes elements that Daniel, himself, uses in his own home.”

One of the highlights of Arsham Cabin is the artist’s new Landshapes bathroom collection, including a hand-carved freestanding tub, toilet, vanity, mirrors, and sink inspired by Rock.01. The Landshapes collection will be available to the public later this summer.

The final piece of the Arsham in Kohler partnership is an exclusive line of apparel and accessories, Malbon x Arsham. Ranging from golf balls and ball markers to drive covers and towels, hats and t-shirts to polos, vests, and sweatshirts, the collection reflects Arsham’s unique aesthetic and Malbon’s modern designs.

“Kohler is honored to partner with Arsham and Malbon, two creative forces that share our passion for bold ideas and immersive experiences,” David says. “We thoroughly embrace and enjoy the creative process—not only as an outlet for innovation, but also as an ethos of presenting new possibilities in design.”
