Pilates is one of the most effective ways to build the strength and mobility needed for golf. Originally designed as a rehabilitation-based system, it has evolved into a full-body training method that builds strength without excess strain. As a longtime practioner, I’ve seen how reformer-based Pilates has become increasingly sought after, but the real shift is toward consistency. For me, it was about finding an in-home system that could replicate the guidance of a studio session, which is exactly what the NordicTrack Ultra 1 Reform RX-S does.

PGA Tour instructor Matt Killen, who happens to be my husband, has studied body mechanics and fitness throughout his career, including going through TPI certification. He was the one who recommended I start Pilates five years ago, pointing out how much stress the golf swing places on the body through asymmetrical movement and rotational force. Over time, he’s seen amateur golfers develop imbalances and lose mobility simply because they’re not properly maintaining core stability or balance through the kinetic chain.

For golfers navigating busy schedules and repetitive swing mechanics, Pilates is a practical way to improve alignment and flexibility while still getting a meaningful workout. Even better is when you can complete that workout in the privacy of your own home with a multipurpose system like the NordicTrack Ultra 1 Reform RX-S.

The experience starts with the design: a clean, minimalist silhouette with a refined silver-and-black finish that has become the centerpiece of my home studio. The 24-inch tilting HD touchscreen offers access to a library of nearly 300 guided workouts through iFIT. Instead of navigating movements on my own, I am coached through proper form and sequencing in real time. I find that the guidance and emphasis on proper technique is ultimately what makes Pilates so effective.

The system’s Smart Spine System and enclosed spring design create a safer, more seamless experience, eliminating the exposed components typically associated with reformers while allowing resistance to be adjusted with a simple push-button mechanism. It removes the friction from the workout, and it allows you to focus entirely on the quality of your movement. I also really appreciate how quiet the carriage is; it’s a controlled glide that creates a smooth, fluid resistance.

Pilates can be whatever you need it to be. We recently featured PGA Tour player Mark Hubbard in a Pilates segment on my show on the Golf Channel, and for him, it comes down to balance. “I feel like I’m getting a really good workout but not exerting too much,” he said. Mark holds the record for most events played in a PGA Tour season, so finding a workout that doesn’t overload the body is essential for him.

Having access to the NordicTrack Ultra 1 Reform RX-S at home has kept me accountable and structured, regardless of my schedule. I choose the length and intensity of an iFIT workout based on what my body needs and can handle that day. I’ve seen firsthand, covering everything from college golf to the senior tour, how important longevity is in this sport. Investing in my body has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.
