ust 25 miles outside of Downtown Austin, the Pedernales and Colorado Rivers cut through a spectacular swath of Texas Hill Country. Situated within this landscape is Thomas Ranch, a 2,200-acre master-planned development that will soon be home to Texas’s most amenity-rich private community: Loraloma.

Loraloma at Thomas Ranch will preserve the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country, with more than 1,200 acres of open space, 40-plus miles of trails, more than two miles of river frontage, swimming holes, and nine private parks. Loraloma will feature a private 18-hole golf course designed by David McLay-Kidd, the renowned architect known for low-impact designs that blend seamlessly into their natural settings.

“Shaped by a shared pursuit of excellence and adventure, Loraloma will be an elevated community, redefining the nature of Austin life,” says Rebecca Buchan, co-founder and CEO of Areté Collective, the sustainability-focused development company behind Loraloma. “Our future residents are making more than a purchase—they are choosing a lifestyle. Membership will enhance the beauty of place and the richness of the overall Thomas Ranch community.”

The unique Texas Hill Country topography is the inspiration for the design of Loraloma’s residences, array of amenities, and, not surprisingly, golf course. Currently underway and set for completion in spring 2025, the 18-hole championship layout will feature McLay-Kidd’s signature light touch, one made famous by his courses at Bandon Dunes in Oregon and St. Andrews in Scotland, among others.

Inspired by McLay-Kidd designs for Loraloma Golf Club, you’ll also find a putting course featuring to-scale replicas of four of the champion course’s holes.

“The Loraloma landscape is vastly more visually inspiring than most of what exists in the Austin area today,” McLay-Kidd said. “Our goal is to open up this dynamic landscape to golfers for a world-class experience, and I will tread very lightly to preserve and protect this land so that it can be enjoyed and embraced for generations to come.”

The heart of the community will be Limestone Gulch, where residents will enjoy everything from a dance hall and tap house to an outdoor amphitheater with access to some of the property’s trails, fishing ponds, and swimming holes. Bringing a bit of Austin’s charm to the community, an easily walkable downtown district within Thomas Ranch will include a mix of retailers, dining, entertainment, grocery, schools, specialty healthcare, and cultural experiences for both locals and travelers.

Residents have the liberty to select their dream homes from a spectrum of meticulously designed two- to five-bedroom turnkey cottages, villas, and estates ranching from 2,400 to 8,000 square feet. Every residence is located just steps away from parks and open spaces for exceptional living by enhancing the connection to the inspiring surrounding landscapes.
