In the beginning there was golf. For America’s most famous golf resort, Pebble Beach, that started in 1897 with Del Monte, the first of five courses and the oldest to date in continuous operation West of the Mississippi. As golfers flocked to the Carmel coast, a log lodge soon followed, but in 1919 it was replaced by what is now, The Lodge at Pebble Beach. This opened along with Pebble Beach Golf Links, is regularly ranked as the No. 1 Public Golf Course in America and is set to host its 16th major championship when the 2027 U.S. Open comes to town. Golf at Pebble Beach has held “Bucket List” status for more than a century, and the Lodge at Pebble Beach has been a fixture every step of the way and now enters a new era of excellence with a stunning refresh and expansion. While every imaginable A-List celebrity, pro athlete, politician and royal since the early 20th century has stayed here, and the Lodge is forever imbued with this rich history, it is the guests in the generations ahead that will write the next chapter in the Pebble Beach saga.

The Lodge never lost its luxury luster, but the newest iteration is once again positioned to be the dream destination of every golf traveler—and every visitor to the Monterey Peninsula period.
The day after Rory McIlroy won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, 10-months and thousands of hours of work commenced throughout a renovation that transformed the building both aesthetically and behind the scenes. Most visible are renovations and expansion of the dining outlets and public spaces, and the changes are apparent from the minute you walk through the front door. The main entrance was redone to showcase sweeping lobby views of Stillwater Cove through floor to ceiling glass windows, setting the tone for the Lodge’s unique position overlooking the Pacific. Likewise, the iconic Stillwater restaurant features a complete interior redesign and expanded capacity, with a new horseshoe-shaped central bar where every guest enjoys stunning Pacific views, along with an outdoor deck overlooking the 18th green. The legendary Tap Room also got a redesign, punctuated by the Champions Room which now features the wedge that Tom Watson famously chipped in with in 1982. Both bars and restaurants are popular gathering places for overnight guests and day visitors alike, and the expanded capacity is a win for all patrons.

With significantly enlarged outdoor spaces, an expanded deck on the south end of the hotel and more patio seating off the Terrace Lounge, the changes guests will notice are not limited to within the Lodge building walls.
For entertaining and special events, both the Tap Room and Stillwater have new private dining rooms, while meeting spaces have been enlarged and updated. Behind the scenes, the guest experience and comforts have been subtly modernized, with a new state of the art kitchen empowering the culinary team to produce the classic dishes guests have come to love, along with creative new inspirations that are bound to become favorites in their own right.

Over the years, the world-class golf courses at Pebble Beach have evolved with quiet precision—new grasses, refined horticulture, smarter irrigation—all without ever losing the soul and sense of place that made them iconic. The Lodge has followed that same path, preserving what has always made it extraordinary while subtly elevating every detail. The result is a destination that feels both timeless and entirely new. For those who have walked its halls before, it’s a welcome return. For those yet to experience it, there has never been a better time to arrive.
