Visiting a golf resort as diverse as Kohler, Wisconsin means there’s no one right way to experience it, even for all of the travelers who venture to the western shores of Lake Michigan with their golf clubs in tow. After all, the property is home to four, full-length championship golf courses—each touting a slew of accolades—a dynamic short course inspired by timeless Golden Age architectural ideals, a comprehensive golf academy, a two-acre putting course with 27 holes, and four simulators in the indoor Kohler Swing Studio.

With all of those links-focused amenities, golf travelers of all ability (and energy) levels can easily choose their own adventure, should they desire the opportunity to create customized Kohler itineraries. That said, the prospect of piecing together a multi-day visit via an a la carte model—although invigorating for some—will be equally overwhelming to others. If you fall into the latter camp, the resort has developed several golf packages that make it easy to bundle the experiences and opportunities that you deem most important.

At the pinnacle of those offerings is the Experience Kohler Package. Aptly described by the resort as “the ultimate golf trip,” this five-night stay includes rounds of golf on each of the resort’s five courses (inclusive of caddie and golf car fees, but excluding caddie gratuity); complimentary replay rounds on the Meadow Valleys, Irish, and Baths courses; unlimited use of the practice facilities; a 30-minute golf lesson; and a special hourly rate for the simulators. Beyond that, guests who purchase this package will enjoy an 80-minute spa treatment at Kohler Waters Spa (gratuity included); discounted rates for additional spa treatments scheduled Monday through Thursday; daily access to River Wildlife, the resort’s 500-acre wilderness preserve; and complimentary breakfasts each morning.

The comprehensive package ensures guests experience the very best of the resort, especially all of its golf amenities. “We’re the only resort in the world featuring four golf courses by Pete Dye,” says Dirk Willis, Kohler’s VP of golf, adding that each of those courses offer unique playing experiences and, because they’re situated as pairs at two distinctive golf destinations—Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits—they make for an even more dynamic golfing vacation. “Together, they put Wisconsin on the map as a global golf destination.”

To play four distinctive Pete Dye-designed golf courses in one location is a thrill, especially in Willis’ estimation, as the long-time golf executive considers the late course designer to be one of the greatest golf architects of his generation. The late Herb Kohler, who initially hired Dye to create each of those courses, felt the same way. “This man built golf courses like no one else,” Kohler once said. “I thought he was the greatest artist that I’d ever seen.”

The Straits at Whistling Straits (main image) may be one of Dye’s greatest achievements, and its resume, which includes four major championships and the Ryder Cup, reinforces that belief. And while many golfers make pilgrimages to eastern Wisconsin specifically to play that bucket list course, others have discovered that they love Dye’s original two layouts at Blackwolf Run even more. With those golf travelers in mind, Kohler Wisconsin created its latest golf package, Breakaway to Blackwolf.

This quick-hitting golf getaway includes a two-night stay; three rounds of golf (one on each of the Blackwolf Run courses—the River Course and Meadow Valleys—and one on the Baths short course); complimentary replay rounds; unlimited use of practice facilities; a 30-minute golf lesson; a special hourly rate at Kohler Swing Studio; discounted spa services; daily breakfasts; and a $100 resort credit. If Experience Kohler is the seven-course tasting menu dinner, Breakaway to Blackwolf is the grab-and-go alternative.

And while those two bundles represent both ends of the spectrum, Kohler Wisconsin’s suite of golf packages include two additional offerings in between. In other words, whether you’re influenced by time or money (or a bit of both), the resort has an experience that can be tailored to your needs.
