Golf travel has never been more popular than it is right now. If you need proof, consider that several of the country’s leading golf resorts sell out more than a year in advance, with some even conducting lotteries for the chance to book reservations two years into the future.
In spite of the fact that it’s hosted numerous major championships, as well as the Ryder Cup, Kohler, Wisconsin remains a bit of a hidden gem, which means the resort still has some openings for those who want to book a golf getaway in 2027. That alone is a good thing; however, there are several other reasons why visiting the western shore of Lake Michigan in 2027 needs to be at the top of your golfing priority list.

For starters, the resort’s next captivating golf course, Purebred Farm, is slated to open in September, though the resort won’t be reserving tee times ahead of that opening. Nevertheless, the course is the handiwork of King Collins Dormer Golf Course Design, who notably created—among other projects— Sweetens Cove and the Crossroads course at Palmetto Bluff, Purebred Farm is routed across 47 acres; epitomizes a minimalist approach to golf course architecture; and trundles through a diverse swath of natural terrain and landscapes, including prairies, river valleys, and former farmland. The latter is particularly noteworthy, given that the course’s name is a tip of the cap to the Kohler family’s now defunct Chiangus cattle-raising enterprise, Kohler Farms.
In totality, the 14-hole, par-56 course exists as an assemblage of par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s and was conceived around a multi-loop layout that will only be playable for those who walk. Enthusiasts of golf course architecture will likely pick up on many features that evoke Golden Age ideals—in particular, the design team embraced a minimalist approach to moving earth—and the natural contours of the land that were embraced allow golfers to be creative with their shots, using the ground if they so choose, to get the ball on the green and close to the hole. In that way, those features work in tandem with the course’s layout and overall length (4,893 yards) to ensure Purebred Farms is approachable to experienced golfers as well as novice and high-handicap players.

Kohler is committed to expanding access to more individuals at all skill levels,” says Mike O’Reilly, the general manager of Kohler Golf, “and this new experience will offer an exciting and dynamic way to enjoy the game.
“Purebred Farm represents our continued dedication to providing exceptional golf experiences that are welcoming, flexible, and rooted in the joy of walking through nature,” O’Reilly continues. “The course is designed to encourage more people to experience the land through golf while providing the creativity and challenge that avid golfers seek. We believe it will become a compelling addition to the overall Kohler Golf experience and a destination in its own right.”
Away from the course, the resort’s new elevated racquet sports destination, The Serve, will enjoy its first full season of operation in 2027. Adjacent to Sports Core—Kohler’s expansive fitness center—The Serve is an equally impressive facility home to six indoor pickleball courts, two heated outdoor platform tennis courts, and a social lounge. In fact, The Serve is the first destination in Wisconsin to combine pickleball, platform tennis, and traditional tennis. Beyond its offerings, the facility also stands out for its coaching staff, a team that includes professional players and former Olympians.

“The Serve is about much more than racquet sports,” says Nina Kohler, the CEO of Kohler Hospitality. “It further expands our wellness offerings by creating a place where guests and community members can come together through movement, connection, and shared experiences. From first-time players to seasoned competitors, The Serve offers a welcoming environment that reflects Kohler’s commitment to exceptional experiences that align with lifelong wellbeing.”
By the midpoint of 2027, visitors to Kohler, Wisconsin will also enjoy new elevated accommodations. While the American Club retains its position as the resort’s flagship hotel, the Inn on Woodlake will debut next summer more than 5 dozen new guestrooms and suites, as well as a fresh indoor golf and social venue, Bucks & Birdies, which will feature golf and F1 racing simulators, duckpin bowling lanes, darts, and other entertainment amenities. It’s all part of a broader initiative to reaffirm Kohler, Wisconsin as one of the country’s foremost golf resorts.
Says Stephen Beaumont, the resort’s president of hospitality: “This next chapter in Kohler, Wisconsin’s evolution reflects our ongoing commitment to creating dynamic, memorable experiences for our guests.”

If all of this has you eager to book a golf trip to the Badger State—and it should—you’d be wise to also consider reserving one of Kohler’s four golf packages. In particular, the To ye Four Package is your best bet to experience all that the Wisconsin resort has to offer. Arranged around a three-night stay, the pinnacle offering includes a round on all four of Kohler’s 18-hole courses, as well as a chance to play the resort’s dynamic short course, The Baths. A golf lesson, complimentary replay rounds (when booked in advance), discounted spa treatments, and daily breakfasts add additional value to the package. And if you time it right, you might even be one of the first to play Kohler’s next great golf course.
Best of all, you don’t need to win a lottery to make it all happen—though experiencing it all likely will make you feel like you did.
