red Couples is confirmed as the 11th Hall of Famer in the Insperity Invitational field, while former U.S. Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker is making his first PGA Tour Champions appearance of the season in the tournament that tees off this Friday, May 29, at The Woodlands CC in Houston, Texas.
The other Hall of Famers teeing up in Texas this week are Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Tom Kite, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie, Mark O’Meara, Jose Maria Olazabal, Vijay Singh and Ian Woosnam, while former Masters champion Mike Weir returns to The Woodlands to defend his title.
“I have always enjoyed coming back to Houston having gone to school here, and where I have also had some success, winning a couple of times,” said Couples, who won the 2010 Insperity Invitational by seven shots. “The Insperity Invitational is highly regarded as one of the best events we play on Tour. We have another incredible field coming this year, and I hope the community will be able to enjoy watching some great golf at the Tournament Course. I know it will be another awesome week.”
Says Bryan Naugle, executive director, Insperity Invitational: “Steve Stricker and Fred Couples are both fan-favorites wherever they tee it up, and that is certainly the case here down in southern Texas. Given Freddie’s connection to Houston, along with Steve being healthy again and ready to get back inside the ropes for the first time, [it] definitely elevates the anticipation of our event.”
