Golf is a game of rituals and traditions. From how we play to how we dress—even to how we drink—a round on the links is defined by our preferences and our habits. Just as the game has evolved, so too have some of the rituals that surround it. Take the post-round cocktail, for example. For as long as golf has existed, players have adhered to an age-old tradition: After the last putt has been holed, the scores tallied, and the clubs stored away, golfers have historically heeded a call to the 19th hole.

These days, as golfers adjourn to the clubhouse after their rounds—be it on the terrace, in the lounge, or over a meal—the celebratory nature of the moment calls for something considered. As you settle in for conversation with friends and enjoy time together, the moment calls for a cocktail that is meant to be savored, too.

Simply put, a martini in hand brings a distinct sense of occasion to the post-round cocktail tradition. And if your martini preference calls for vodka, Ketel One represents the ideal pour. After all, the brand has fostered a longstanding partnership with golf, one that dates back to the days when Arnold Palmer was suavely walking down fairways and cashing winner’s checks. Ketel One was famously Arnie’s vodka of choice, and in time, the company let the world know. One popular print advertisement matter-of-factly stated: “We thought you’d like to know Arnold Palmer drinks Ketel One.”

Why Ketel One, you ask? It likely came down to quality, not to mention the brand’s commitment to maintaining it. Ketel One has always been crafted by the Nolet family in Schiedam, Netherlands, drawing on 11 generations of distilling experience. Today, a family member still personally tastes and approves every batch of Ketel One vodka before it’s bottled. That attention to detail aligned with how Arnie played the game. But just as Palmer was skilled with a driver, 7-iron, and putter in his hands, he also knew how to talk with someone, how to engage with them, how to give them his undivided attention. Arnie was the consummate people person.

Those qualities—and those interactions—are at the heart of the post-round cocktail hour. It’s the moment when attention shifts from the game you played to the people you played it with, and when there’s time to appreciate what’s in your glass, too. That is where the martini feels especially at home. It’s a natural expression of Ketel One’s Made to Cocktail philosophy: the belief that a well-made cocktail can bring something special to the moments worth lingering over. Few occasions capture that better than the 19th hole, when the scorecard is set aside and the focus shifts to good drinks, good stories, and good company.

Just as golf introduces countless moments for creativity and individuality, a post-round martini can do the same. Dry or dirty; shaken or stirred; finished with an olive or a twist—or reimagined altogether with espresso and coffee liqueurs—the martini offers remarkable room for personalization. Small details in preparation can give each martini its own distinctive character. Few cocktails offer the same combination of ritual and personal expression.

Below, you’ll find three classic Ketel One recipes, each a distinctive taste and all perfectly tailored to the moment when glasses are raised in celebration of a round played and the meaningful moments that follow.
